Leveraging Spirituality and Religion in European For-profit-organizations: a Systematic Review

Abstract This systematic review synthesises the available evidence regarding European understanding of workplace spirituality (definitions), importance and religion (evidence) as well spiritual leadership (meaning practice) in for-profitorganizations. The search for eligible studies was conducted OPAC Plus, SCOPUS, Science Direct, JSTOR, EBSCO, Google Scholar from 2007/01 to 2017/07. Three independent scholars extracted data. Twenty were included (two mixed-methods, eight quantitative, ten qualitative) final quality assessment. A study assessment thematic analysis conducted. gives suggestions improvement reporting. Thematically, two different approaches (R/S) detected: a) work has a dimension b) religious orientation “spiritual capital”. Studies demonstrated positive effect on job satisfaction, health, commitment, company productivity sustainability; Christian does not address personal orientation; may lead change perspective; exploit people profit-oriented business goals; non-white Muslims experience discrimination. provides robust findings evidence-informed policymaking encourages more rigorous research this field study.
